Today's Spanish Lesson
My grandparents spoke both english and spanish. I didn't. Even after 4 years of spanish classes (straight A's), i still can't speak it. What i do know is the lil tidbits that my grandma used to tell me.
She would always talk to us in spanish and get frustrated because we didn't understand. Ok, to be honest, my cousins kind of understood, but i sure as hell didn't.
To make me want to learn spanish, she would come up to me, when i was little, and would hold me in her arms....sing me lullabies and say little things that i've now got stuck in my head.
One of them was this one about *ants*...
when she'd get to the asi, asi, asi...that's when she would pinch...hard the first couple of times i ever heard it! (translation: how do the ants bite at your grandma's house?...like this! like this! like this!)
i caught on after the first few times so i knew it was coming so i'd run....but then she'd do it lightly so i could learn the saying.... and i'd repeat it over the years....
The other one that finds it's way out of my mouth, every so often is about taking things for granted
("something is something, the devil says")
in any case...i'm now missing my grandma
i've been thinking about her all week....
it's almost been a year

My grandma and I are very close, it is hard to think of life without her. I am sorry you are missing yours right now. Big hugs to you friend!
Abrazo grande a usted a me amiga!
(I think that means "big hug to you my friend"... my spanish is major rusty.)
I miss mine too.

Your story reminded me of my grandmother who's been gone for over 20 years. Just typing that makes me want to bawl. She use to babysit me when I was just a toddler ... first we'd watch her "story" (As the World Turns), then we'd watch my story "The Flintsones." Then we'd tell each other stories. I love grandmothers and miss mine so much! I know how you feel.
